Toyota plans to introduce an all-electric version of its popular Toyota Hilux Revo BEV by the end of 2025. The automaker is currently testing several electric Hilux vehicles in the Thai resort town of Pattaya before moving forward with production. While Toyota has been cautious with electric powertrains, this move demonstrates its commitment to embracing electric technology.

In 2022, Toyota showcased an electric version of the Hilux truck as part of its 60th-anniversary celebration in Thailand. Now, Toyota Thailand spokesman Noriaki Yamashita has confirmed that a production model of the electric pickup truck is on the horizon. However, the specific production location for the Hilux Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) has not been disclosed.

Yamashita revealed that the electric pickup will undergo testing in Pattaya, a popular tourist destination in eastern Thailand. Around a dozen electric vehicles will be deployed in the city next month for use as public transportation. This testing phase will allow Toyota to gather valuable data and feedback before the Hilux BEV enters full-scale production.

Interestingly, Toyota’s announcement coincides with Isuzu’s recent declaration that it will also introduce an electric version of its D-MAX pickup truck in Thailand by 2025. The Thai government’s support for electric vehicle adoption has spurred both automakers to make significant strides in the electric truck market.

Overall, Toyota’s decision to develop an electric Hilux demonstrates its dedication to expanding its electric vehicle lineup and meeting the evolving demands of consumers. By embracing electric technology, Toyota aims to contribute to a more sustainable future while continuing to provide reliable and popular pickup truck options.
