Ducati has recently provided a glimpse into its first electric motorcycle, currently known as the V21L. Although the bike is still undergoing development, the Italian manufacturer has shared some key specifications with the public.
The electric motor of the Ducati V21L generates an impressive 148 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque. To ensure optimal performance at all times, both the motor and the battery feature a liquid cooling system. During testing at the renowned Mugello circuit, which is recognized for its high-speed capabilities in MotoGP racing, the Ducati V21L reached a remarkable top speed of 275 km/h.
The battery boasts a capacity of 18 kWh and comprises 1,152 cylindrical cells, weighing a total of 110 kilograms. While the specific range of the motorcycle has not been disclosed, it is worth noting that the V21L is primarily designed for track use, with less emphasis on its range for everyday civilian riding.
The Ducati V21L has a curb weight of 225 kilograms, and carbon fiber has been extensively utilized in its construction to enhance its lightweight and sturdy characteristics. The bike features Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes, providing exceptional handling and braking performance. As the V21L lacks a traditional gearbox, the Ducati has incorporated a second brake lever on the left side of the handlebars, which may require riders to adapt their reflexes accordingly.
Starting from next year, Ducati will become the exclusive supplier for the FIM MotoE electric world championship series. The V21L model will be utilized in this championship, and the knowledge and expertise gained through participation will eventually contribute to the development of a road-going electric motorcycle by the Italian company.
In a related development, British firm White Motorcycle Concepts has recently unveiled details of its WMC250EV project, which aims to create the world’s fastest electric motorcycle. Preliminary calculations suggest that the WMC250EV will exceed a maximum speed of 400 km/h, showcasing the ongoing advancements and innovations within the electric motorcycle industry.
